Contucci

2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG Riserva

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva is kind of a show off, but you forgive it immediately because it’s just that good. Right away, you get tobacco, earth, ripe plum, spice, and a little floral violet note that keeps it feeling elegant rather than heavy. Then the palate just keeps unfolding with black cherry, star anise, nutmeg, and a crack of white pepper that sneaks in at the end. Loads is going on, but the bright acidity keeps it fresh and ridiculously easy to keep drinking.

"The fantastic Contucci 2019 Vino Nobile Riserva hits all the right buttons, starting with its aromas of forest floor, leather, fragrant blue flower and culinary spice. Youthfully austere and showing great tension and aging potential, the vibrant, focused palate offers Marasca cherry, raspberry, crushed mint and clove set against a backbone of fine-grained tannins. It's well balanced, with bright acidity. Drink 2031–2044." -Kerin O'Keefe, July 2025 ©kerinokeefe.com
