2021 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli DOCG
“Dark fruit flavors of black cherry, black currant and blackberry are accented by violet, mineral and wild herb flavors. This red is racy and complex, with terrific energy from start to finish. Though this is focused on the fruit, there’s a lot going on. Best from 2029 through 2050.”- 98/100, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator
Region: Montosoli, Montalcino
Appellation: Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli DOCG
Varietal/Blend: 100% Sangiovese Grosso
ABV: 14.5%
Vineyard: Forty-year-old Sangiovese vines on the Montosoli cru, planted at 280–300 metres on east- to southeast-facing galestro soils composed of quartz, schist, and sandstone. The vines are trained to spurred cordon and Guyot at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare. Grapes are harvested by hand in early October.
Cellar: Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at 28–30°C for 21 days, followed by 25 days of skin maceration with frequent pump-overs. The wine then ages for 36 months in 40-hectolitre Slavonian oak botti, followed by six months in bottle before release.
