Domaine de la Solitude

2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC Tradition Rouge

This is Domaine de la Solitude's historical cuvée, in production since the 1970's. It includes the entire panorama of Southern Rhône varieties including a number of rarities. Florent's approach in the cellar is very responsive to what kind of fruit the vintage gives, thus the cépage and élevage change somewhat year to year. The bouquet is prototypical CndP in all its glory, rich in garrigue and red fruit and with a heady reference to the dynamism of pre-modern varietal diversity in these wines. Round on the palate and gorgeously balanced with a lovely sweetness and natural aromas of cocoa and morello cherry. The long, suave finish is particularly liquoriced. A wine with which to learn Châteauneuf-du-Pape's essence. Drink now or age up to fifteen years. Serve at 16-18ºC.

2020: 95WS, 95DE
2021: 94JS, 92DE and featured in Matt Walls 26 value Chateauneuf-du-Pâpe to try: "This has the classic, herbal and raspberry nose which so many 2021 Châteauneufs display. Very broad, flowing and silky. Acidity feels natural and it has a soft, gently resonant finish. Very little tannin and the alcohol is balanced. A charming, enjoyable Châteauneuf to drink young. 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Counoise and a 5% combination of Cinsault, Terret Noir, Muscardin and Vaccarèse. 10% matured in barriques for 15 months."
