Château de Clotte

2016 Château de Clotte Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux AOC

Eight centuries of winemaking history is quite a lot to live up to, but Château de Clotte seems perfectly comfortable with it. The vines here date back to the 13th century, planted on the clay-limestone hills of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, where Bruno Laporte now carries on the tradition. This is Bordeaux blending at its most enjoyable, with Merlot's generous, juicy fruit meeting the firmer character of Cabernet, while Malbec brings a lovely hint of spice. Ripe, juicy black cherries and plump boysenberries give the wine a wonderfully luscious feel, while a few years in the bottle bring out seductive notes of worn leather and sweet tobacco.
